Designer and author of Your Body, Your Style Rani St. Pucchi, shares the ideal wardrobe you need to go thru this season so you look smart and sassy, and flaunt your style with confidence.

Global warming has certainly confused us all!

One never knows what the weather is like outside. Every day is a surprise, especially for us here in California. We’ve barely had any winter this year. Just when we unpacked and organized our closet in preparation for the cold winter days, spring crept in!

So, in view of the unpredictability we find ourselves in, we must be ever ready to gain access to our summer wardrobe as well.

Summer can be a challenging season to dress for many women. You reveal more of your body than in any other season and have fewer layering tricks at your disposal to cover up certain parts that you’re not as comfortable with. Your wardrobe for this time of the year needs to be pretty flexible and hardworking.

Aside from needing to look appropriate as well as smart while remaining cool for work, there are PTA meetings or weddings to attend. The possibility of sudden changes in weather as well as last-minute beach weekends calls for fun and fundamental mix-and-match pieces, colors and prints, and spontaneity.

Have a wear-anywhere sundress? A camisole, a white T-shirt, or a cotton skirt you love? Now is the time to bring them out and enjoy them.

Here is a capsule wardrobe containing some versatile mix-and-match pieces to get you through this time of the year:

  • Sundresses (a summer day dress and a high- summer beach dress)
  • A work dress
  • Evening black chiffon dress
  • White T-shirt
  • A classic men’s white shirt: chic and simple
  • Silk blouse
  • Halter top
  • Tank tops: cotton for day and dressy for evening
  • Cotton shorts
  • Camisole
  • Khaki pants
  • Flat-front lightweight mix cotton pants
  • Cotton skirt
  • A bias-cut or flowing skirt in chiffon
  • Cotton cardigan or sweater
  • Lightweight jacket or coat to cover up for rain or an evening chill
  • Swimsuit
  • Beach cover-up
  • Thong sandals
  • Open-toe work shoes and classic high-heel pumps
  • Espadrilles
  • Ballet flats
  • Sunglasses
  • Canvas tote
  • Straw bag
  • Evening clutch

You can dress these pieces up or down any which way you like. Add jewelry and accessories for an evening look to get out of being a bit too reliant on the humdrum shorts and a tired T.

And for work, mix up those essential shapes and styles with a pair of open-toed heels, and you’re ready to roll!
